Tempe Community Action Agency
Since 1966, Tempe Community Action Agency (TCAA) has worked to eliminate poverty and promote healthy communities by providing person-centered support in food security, housing stability, health and well-being, and economic empowerment, serving nearly 40,000 people in 2023—about one in seven Tempe residents—with significant positive outcomes such as improved nutrition, reduced housing worries, enhanced quality of life, and increased financial confidence, while doubling their service reach over the past decade.
Since 1966 Tempe Community Action Agency (TCAA) has dedicated its resources to strengthening families and neighborhoods through initiatives that address the causes and effects of poverty. They envision a society where every person has what they need to live a healthy, purposeful life. To get there, they’re eliminating poverty and advancing healthy communities.
TCAA helps to lift economically vulnerable households out of poverty by helping adults and families enhance their stability and security by providing highly responsive support that helps them meet their goals. Their core services focus on four primary areas of impact:
- Food Security
- Housing Stability
- Health and Well-Being
- Economic Empowerment
In 2023, TCAA served a total of 39,820 people, which is the equivalent of 1 in 7 Tempe residents. TCAA reported the following outcomes by program:
Food Security
- 92% report they are eating more nutritious food
- 94% report they worry less about food insecurity
Housing Stability
- 80% report they worry less about housing expenses
- 86% feel confident in their ability to improve their financial situation
Health & Well-being
- 89% report their quality of life has improved
- 95% feel a stronger connection to their community
- 83% of older adult respondents report increased independence and ability to age in place
Economic Empowerment
- 82% feel more prepared to obtain and maintain employment
- 82% feel more confident in their ability to achieve their financial goals
"TCAA has had a 100% increase in the total number of people served over the last 10 years. With that amount of growth, we needed a technology solution that could help us provide person-centered case management, improve our programs, and increase our impact in the community,” said Megan Wilson, MSW, Senior Programs Manager at TCAA.
